Review on Logitech Advanced Illuminated Wireless Keyboard Computer Accessories & Peripherals for Keyboards, Mice & Accessories by Adam Trela ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly as promised by the manufacturer, high quality.

I am pleased with the purchase and anticipate the same 8-year lifespan as my last Logitech keyboard. Most of my distress is, of course, due to my long familiarity with the previous Logitech keyboard. However, I wish Logitech would smack its designers over the head, because the ease of pushing keys shouldn't be sacrificed in the sake of "novelty" or "beauty" by making all the function buttons the same size and moving the top row to the side. And yeah, you would be very much mistaken if you assumed that nobody actually does what the F1-F10 keys are for.

Pros
  • The keyboard is great; the buttons are made of nice material, and the layout is just as I like it. It's not going to be dangling on the table because it's heavy ("Heavy is reliability"!). The backlight works, but I rarely turn it on.
Cons
  • As a result of reasons and motivations that are utterly mysterious, left shift has been severely limited. My little finger used to miss frequently, but ever since I got a keyboard a month ago, I've been using it much more accurately. Since ESC is so much bigger and the F1 and other buttons are now to the right, I keep missing them. The design of the lighting makes disabling it a more convenient option, so there's really no reason to leave it on. In its current form, it is more distracting and bothersome than beneficial (and at the same time unrealistically chews up the battery) due to the gaps surrounding the buttons, which prevent it from being used to improve the aesthetic even during the day. The idiotic backlight shutoff begins at this point. Only use it if you absolutely must perform your work in near total darkness. You don't need the Fn key for the session lock button to function. This is a negative feature because it is unclear why or for whom an unintentional press would be necessary, and it results in an immediate lock. This feature is available in Linux-compatible software (Solaar), although its inclusion there is puzzling. You should only use the Fn key to access this setting.
