These were purchased to store handmade soap. The exact empty measurement for them is actually 3 inches by 4 3/4 inches, not 5 inches. USED space after using the tip goes back to 3" by 4 1/2" since the tip portion occupies 1/4". So far my 6 ounce bars of soap are too big for them. I'm going to try my smaller 4 ounce soap mold because they won't hold a 1 inch thick bar of soap. I'll see if my thick 1/2, which will also be an elongated 2 1/2 x 3 inch rod, works. They are well built and I like the double pull. I would just love it if they were actually 5 inches deep instead of 4 1/2 inches of usable space
