Set up a small 5.1 system in a 10x10 office and it fits. I originally started out with the Monoprice 8248 8-inch subwoofer, which sounded much better than what was being offered for its $50 price tag, but had issues with background noise and an auto-on feature that turned the subwoofer on and off intermittently turned off unless the volume was turned up low. was looking for a lot of compact subwoofers and wanted something that would fit in the bottom of a table cart so it wouldn't get in the way. The mono price was a bit big for the location and I had to find it elsewhere. Perfect. When I saw that this quake was less than 10 inches tall, which is perfect for the given space, I decided to give it a try. I know Earthquake from their car audio systems but have never tried any of them for home audio. After I hooked up the subwoofer for the first time to see if it worked, it made little to no noise when I played music from my iPhone. I had to turn the gain halfway up before it made any noticeable noise. After placing it in a fixed location, I performed an auto-calibration on my AVR. He tuned the 2" Dayton satellites I use for the LCR to 200Hz, which seemed high to me, but after listening to other crossover points, 200Hz sounded better. There is some localization with this crossover with male vocals, notably Sam Smith, but after calibration and gain adjustment the bass is very smooth and works well with the satellites. Not boomy and adds a nice kick when you're watching movies. that is of course not my intention. The placement and size of the room are key factors in its performance. Keep your expectations realistic and you will be happy. The build quality is good, the cabinet is very solid and unlike most budget subs of this size it uses a 3 pin connector. There's a very slight hum that can be quiet, and it might have more to do with the wiring in the house than the subwoofer, but it's definitely a lot quieter than the Monoprice. I managed to snag an open box through Revain for $110 and it's worth every penny. At its current $200 new price, I'd think twice if you're in the price range of bigger, better subs, or close enough to the good 12-inch mid-range subs where you're willing to pay the extra bucks and heck save space!
