Review on Moog 345 U Joint 1 Pack by Patrick Keita

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Crown Victoria fits universal joints

The U-joint is not forced out by the ball joint like a traditional U-joint. The flange is much thicker than a conventional driveshaft. This will prevent the joint from being pushed out. Get ready to cut out the old U-joint. Or you can set it on fire if you have a cutter. I used an angle grinder with a cutting disc attachment. It wasn't really hard to cut out the old hinge once I got over my amazement that it couldn't be pushed out. Also note that a steel drive shaft is used and ex-police cars are fitted with an aluminum drive shaft. This Moog part is for steel driveshafts only. The aluminum drive shaft is much easier to machine and the old joint is pressed out as usual. The steel hinge of the cardan shaft is not pushed out. Also keep in mind that without other mods, you cannot directly convert an aluminum gimbal to a steel gimbal. This is a more complex exchange. No straight screw. I first went to my local parts store and bought a cheaper U-joint which they claimed would work. It was a pivot point for an aluminum driveshaft and will not work with a steel driveshaft. The U-joint cups were simply slid into the flange, not the interference fit they should be. Don't let your local parts store fool you into buying the wrong driveshaft. Even if they say it will be. This is the only one that fits on a steel cardan shaft. You can also purchase a transmission output shaft seal and replace it when the driveshaft is removed. The bolts holding the driveshaft are tightened at the factory. I recommend having an airstrike ready for this task. Dual exhaust cars have an exhaust bracket, but that doesn't stop you from removing the driveshaft. You can maneuver the driveshaft around the exhaust bracket. Working on cars with a steel driveshaft is tedious but necessary.
