Review on πŸ’œ Renewed Samsung Galaxy Note 8, 64GB in Orchid Gray for AT&T Customers by Bima ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am satisfied, the purchase is quite successful.

Well, in general I am satisfied with the device. And I decided to skip Note 9. Incl. because of their trade-in policy. Galaxy S8+ count up to 28230. And Note 8, released six months later, has everything the same, only one and a half times more RAM, a brighter screen, a second camera, a stylus . drum roll . up to 26,000! Marketers, do you need a doctor? If it were 36, I would seriously think about it, but now I understand this as a demotivation from Samsung: "Forget it, Note 8 owners, you already have normal smartphones." Moreover, the vaunted camera is at my fingertips in the S9 of a loved one. I have no idea what can make me give up the stylus. I'm not an artist, I'm left-handed and just jot down notes during conversations, especially orders at work, incl. to the locked screen. It's indescribably convenient. DeX leaves mixed feelings. I received a "glass" of DeX Station on pre-order. Threw him to work. You poke the USB dongle of the mouse + keyboard from the computer to the dock, click on the monitor to switch the screen - and you're done. But the DeX Pad of early 2022 would have been more convenient. And Note 9 can DeX without a dock - with a cable, and it's even more convenient if it doesn't overheat without a fan. But in any case, MS Lumia 950 was able to do all this three years ago in the Continuum mode of Windows Mobile. And she also knew how to use this mode without wires: HID via BT, video via Miracast. And here in Miracast only screen mirroring, without DeX. I understand that in pursuit of a better user experience, Miracast lags, but at least as a dev option? And I wrote, Miracast out of my ~ 10 devices, probably from 7 breaks the connection immediately after installing it. Several PCs with W10 through the built-in application incl. work, some don't. I wanted to contact support, but my hands did not reach, and the year of the guarantee was already ending. So, it's not necessary. A non-flagship selfie camera, which, by the way, was not improved in the S9 / Note 9, unlike the A8. Mono-speaker of average scall. If the soul sings, but there are no speakers, it will do. The sound in the audio jack is mediocre. The bundled headset is good. I have Bluetooth LDAC ears. Didn't fit everything.

Pros
  • (I'm rewriting the review) I chose this device without much comparison, because only it has a stylus and an iris scanner (as of September 2022). The stylus is a kind of fetish for me with roots of 15 years, and the Iris-scanner, in my opinion, is now the choice of any self-respecting paranoid - you yourself leave fingerprints everywhere, a 3D model of a face (a la iPhone X scanner) can be compiled and print out, having several photos of your head from different angles (new software, AI, that's all) that can be taken from afar, even if you yourself or your friends have not posted enough of them on social networks. To get a photo of the iris, you need to shoot both of your eyes at close range with a professional camera. Late 2022 ads touted its display. Then they praised the iPhone X, then the Galaxy S9, now the Note 9. Anyway, in direct bright sunlight on the Note 8, the brightness and contrast get out, and this is enough for text and maps. You need to try to see the photos, the video in direct sun simply cannot be viewed. Not ideal. But I'm not at all sure that some displays will cope with this. And the rest of the display is just good, I can’t imagine how it could be better. Six months after buying myself a Note 8, I chose (not myself) an S9 with 4 GB of RAM. I think 6 GB of RAM is not enough, it's a lot. And theoretically eats a battery. It's about performance. About her - the Exynos processor, an analogue of the SD835, works well. I wrote, I found terrible lags at maximum speed on the siege in Lineage: Revolution (played for 2 months and quit). Sometimes the display of the volume slider lags, if something from the multimedia starts, it switches at this moment. 2-3 seconds is better to wait. But this is not a percentage, this is software / OS stupid. The support is good. I complained that they didn’t give the horizontal mode to the launcher in Oreo - they gave it after 2 patches. He complained that a glitch with water protection and reboots was added to Oreo - they removed the trail. monthly patch or after 1. And monthly patches come out in the same month, mb 1-2 weeks behind Android One.
Cons
  • A good 12MP camera, but nothing more. Aperture f / 1.7 is far from being in every flagship, but in the Galaxy of 2022 it is already 1.5. In short, good. But it doesn’t meet my expectations and needs: I dreamed of capturing beautiful landscapes in perfect quality, but I got some kind of Instagram unit, which is designed to shoot people a meter away from you or food. Telephoto x2 there too, it helps to make portraits with bokeh, but it will help little to reach out to that tower. Or squirrels on a tree. Or an island in the middle of a river. At least with such detail as I see with my own eyes. Alas. In the summer of 2022, some Chinese announced x5 zoom, I would probably like it. Well, 12MP is not enough, it cuts off the digital zoom. If the picture turns out to be good, God forbid it to be enlarged on the phone screen - noises and other delights will become visible. I played around with ISO (from 50), shutter speed (up to 10 sec), BB. By the way, RAW is supported, but I don't know how. Separate "bonus" - video filming. My Nokia Lumia 1520 from 2022 (by the way, 20MP and SD800+2GB RAM) was capable of 120fps video in 720x1280, well, 4K. Here are the same 4k at 30fps, 60fps only FHD. What, at least FHD @ 120fps in any way? Well, at least 720p@120? Not enough processor? Is 6 GB of RAM not enough? This is a mockery specifically for the sake of the 9th generation, where oyoy! even SUPER-SLOW-MO 720p@960 is possible, but not longer than 0.6 sec. 600 milliseconds of video at 720x1280, yes. And the telephoto stub is weaker than the main one. When moving, it often loses focus for a second. The ecosystem is very torn. Let's say I'm used to MS + . Here, Google will still eat the battery, collecting information about you - it happens that in half a day the phone loses 5% of the charge, and sometimes it takes 40% overnight (without ates, etc.). Report, dog. The voice search engine in applications is also Google. Google assistant constantly offers to set it up. Samsung itself imposes Bixby as brazenly as possible. They do not even think of localizing it for the 2022, but they pop it and resist attempts to use its physical button in some other way. Another jamb with Miracast. It just doesn't work for almost anything.
