Review on πŸ“» Six-Pack of TIDRADIO UV-5R Ham Radio Handhelds by Manny Darawi

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The radio is fine; Accessories under the base.

Advantages: Typically UV-5R. Comes with programming cable and N771 clone antenna, works perfectly. Bonus second battery and car charger for the base. this is to be expected (e.g. the mic hole is too small, you have to enlarge it to actually hear it, use CHIRP to program and just "don't even bother" with the rubber ducky antenna, etc.) MEH: Charging Dock - tick free . Doesn't fit like a Japanese radio; It will take a thicker battery but will also fall out if not placed on a flat and stable surface. The programming cable is a fake that requires a driver download to work properly. Instructions and working links for these drivers are included with the instructions and are easy to follow, but it is an extra step. The car charger plugs into the charging station, not the radio or the battery connector itself. Not terrible, but not entirely mobile-friendly either. THE BAD: While it's nice to have a handheld mic and a speaker with a mic, they both suck the monkey's gonads. The connection between the handheld speaker and the microphone is loose somewhere near or within the mounting area. Other reviews said some plastic trim had to be trimmed to fit the plugs properly and fully into the sockets, which wasn't a big deal; However, it turns off if you disturb the cable even slightly. watch the video Buy a good external speaker microphone. The included speaker is basically free bullshit. You can hear, but the volume control is minimal, if any, then too quiet, then too loud; There is no real customization. In addition, the microphone cannot be heard on it. All in all not a bad setup for the price - cheaper than buying a legitimate N771 antenna; but I sometimes wonder if there is a performance difference. You get what you pay for, but next time I'll just buy a radio and build a dipole or J-shaped antenna for better RF gain.
