When my 2006 IS250 had 90,000 miles my water pump started whining. I took my car to my local Lexus dealer for an independent service and the dealer told me my pump was good to go. He listed $980 to just replace the water pump. The dealer also offered to replace the serpentine belt for an additional $200, although my belt looked fine. I thought $1200 was a bit much so I told the dealer I'd like to think about it, but I really wanted to check and see how much other mechanics were charging. I never called another mechanic and instead decided to investigate this to see if I could do this repair myself. Club Lexus and YouTube are great resources, but I'll admit I was very hesitant to attempt this repair as I'm not mechanical by nature. I'm more of an office type as I'm good with spreadsheets but not machines. However, I wanted the satisfaction of being able to do it myself. After purchasing this pump, serpentine belt, and tools, I watched YouTube videos a few times and read the Club Lexus instructions to familiarize myself with the steps before getting down to the actual work. This water pump looks exactly like the OEM product except the model number has been deleted. All in all, this job took just over 4 hours to complete the repair. I believe the dealer said it would take about 3 hours. Taking photos on the go is useful just in case. It's been a month since the repair and so far so good. The pump is holding up well and I've saved enough to buy a trip to Hawaii. Aloha!
