I ordered this to prevent our dog from walking up the stairs and I needed something permanent. These metal gates have a design that gives the impression of wood but are made of durable metal. The instructions were relatively easy (be careful, read the label that says 'stop - do not remove this tie before installation as the gate will 'slam shut' during installation) We have a 100 year old house with wide ledges on the floor so we had to put a block against the plaster wall upstairs to even this out as we had to fit an extension for the wide hallway but now that it stands it's great what I don't like it is a frame under the gate that we have to climb over to get down, at the top of the stairs it can be dangerous if someone trips over it, but at the bottom the gate doesn't fit our stairs due to the placement of the railing.
