Heavy and don't stay put

These braids look and feel nice, however, they're so heavy the bands slip right off of my natural hair no matter how tight I get them deeming them unusable for me.
The hair is attached to an average and fairly thick ponytail band that is not grippy at all - perhaps some grip would help them to stay put. I'm going to cut a few inches (or more) off to try and reduce the weight and hopefully make them appear more natural as they're also way too long for my taste.Overall, these are probably fine for some, but they don't work for me.
