Review on OWC Superslim USB 2.0 Enclosure: MacBook & MacBook Pro Unibody Compatible with Apple SuperDrive by Daniel Haddo

Also works with non-genuine discs

I have a Blu-ray drive that used to be in a 2011 MBP. After the AMD GPU overheated and grilled my computer, I kept both the original DVD drive and the non-original Blu-ray. Other cases didn't fit, but this one is perfect. The three drive screws that come with this case aren't really needed as all drives with SATA slots are the same size and fit snugly. Just slide the case and plug the drive into the SATA connector. Slide the cover into place, then insert the fully-threaded screw into an exposed leg and gently tighten. Finally add a missing leg. The USB cable includes a second cable and connector for connection to an external USB power source if required. (External power supply not included). Modern computers with USB 3 have enough power with just one connector. Some USB-2 only computers don't have enough power on their own. It would be nice if the body was aluminum to match Apple products. This one is made out of cheap looking plastic. I don't think there are metal cases to buy. Just black plastic, like this one, and even cheaper, painted silver. The screws and the foot are supplied in the case. It would be better if all the parts outside the IMO case were clearly visible. Thus, it is easy to determine the presence of all parts without opening the case. The three mounting screws are different from the case screw, but are packaged together and look almost the same. However, they are not interchangeable, so it would be better if they were easier to tell apart or packaged separately. I would also stick on a small detachable arrow to show you how to open the case for the first time. It's the little details that make a quality product stand out from the rest.
