Fairly easy to assemble. You may need a rubber mallet if you aren't strong enough to push the pieces into the correct holes. I have a 65# Weimaraner and it's pretty strong for her. I think she's nervous and slips a little because she tends to stick her nails out. I think it would be better if the entire top of the stairs was solid and maybe with thicker carpet. But I'm sure any normal dog that doesn't go mad can do it. She's learned to climb stairs if she's exercising with a treat, but won't use it alone. Her hips are getting worse, so I'm considering blocking access to the bed except where the stairs are. Otherwise good size and height. My bed is fairly high off the floor with a 3" memory foam pad and the top of the top ladder is about 2" from where it would be flush with the bed. As far as I remember it's all plastic, no metal parts. Easy to move around if needed, pretty light.
