I didn't really need cold starters and the little "adapter" is so light/plastic I never use free ones, they aren't big enough. Cold shoes use tiny screws to tighten the base of your mount, so use caution if this is intentional. I bought this to use the screws to mount the LED sticks directly. They are fine for that, although I had to add an extra pillow on one side. The screws feel solid and the mount feels well made and decently adjusted. Cold boots should be replaced with better ones, and the small "adapter" screw should be thrown into the box.
