Franklin Brass Medium Stain Solid Wood Shelving Unit is a very simple and unpretentious shelving unit. Received it along with Franklin Brass art deco shelf brackets, sold separately. In any case, although the wooden shelf is beautifully varnished, it does not have a protective coating. This omission makes it cheap. But it also looks attractive in combination with decorative shelf supports. And if you install it on studs as instructed in the instructions, it can bear a reasonable weight. I originally planned to use it behind my entertainment center to hide small antennas and devices. As it turns out, I didn't like hiding it there, so I moved it to a more prominent spot in my living room. It looks better on the wall than up close but overall I give the shelf four stars for the quality of the paint and the price.
