Review on FiiO FH3 Triple Drive HiFi Earphones: High Resolution, Bass Sound, High Fidelity for Smartphones/PC/Tablet by Scott Larson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good sound and ergonomics

I rediscovered iems last year after 20 years away from the scene. A lot has changed since Circuit City and The Good Guys (okay, maybe a 20+ year hiatus). I've tested many of the options below so you can see for yourself. My favorite piece is ikko OH10. I was drawn to the musical performance of instruments that sound natural and rich. Sub-bass boom and pronounced treble made listening even more enjoyable. I absolutely dislike: Final 7200 (soulless, lacking energy, but very analytical), Legacy 3 (pounding bass, instruments didn't sound quite right). right), YGF-ISS04 (just a mess). I could see how others might like them but they sounded too thin/tinny or askew/plastic to my ears: FD1, KXXS, Shozy CP3 and Form 1.1, T2+. I liked these, but they weren't as "good" as the OH10: Yamaha EPH-200, Tape, FH5, JVC/Drop HA-FDX1. But I quickly got tired of the heavy OH10s falling out of my ears, so I attempted to make a custom radian shape. I made a mistake, clogged the tube filter and went in search of a replacement (as the OH10 is long gone from Revain). The FH3 is cheaper, much lighter, has better ergonomics, a stronger cable and comes with better accessories. I like the sound a little less than the OH10 but they are on the same level. The FH3's bass is very good, but compared to the OH10 it's a bit boomy, with a little less sub-bass boom. The vocals are a bit more understated and I can hear a little "grain" in the vocals. The vocals on the OH10 sound believable like someone just singing alongside me, but the FH3 sounds like a record - a great record but still not the same experience. The OH10's highs gave me a little trouble at higher volumes, but the FH3 has the detail I'm looking for without any complaints. The amount of wow moments I get while listening to music is about the same as the OH10. But take all of that with a pinch of salt as my OH10s are broken and I can't do a direct comparison. When it comes down to it, I have a slight memory preference for the OH10 sound, but what good are they when they're so difficult to wear (tried lots of different attachments but no spinfits)? If possible, I suggest trying both OH10 and FH3; They're similar in style to headphones, and both are great options. But if you want to know the truth, you have to follow the money. I'll keep my FH3 and won't wait for the OH10 to be back on the market. FH3 is a great model - I would buy it among all its competitors under $300. I haven't tried anything above that price point, but I doubt there's a magical "next level" of items just over $300, so I'm sure the FH3 will also compete in the $300+ range.
