Review on Altec Lansing HydraMini Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Waterproof, USB C Rechargeable Battery, 6 Hours Playtime, Compact & Shockproof - Royal Blue by Denise Ward

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the smallest speakers in the AL range

We are very familiar with Altec Lansing having used their computer speakers when we bought these black and white Gateway computers. Boxes for imprinting cows. This mini hydra is exactly what is used in the model's name. The speaker holds up fairly well to general abuse at work when taken to apartments/rentals for maintenance. I didn't need a boombox, I needed something I could plug into my phone and control Spotify while I worked. The speaker is waterproof, but I just sprayed it while working next to a sink without submerging it in water. The carabiner and triangular hole come in handy for hanging this speaker in places that are out of the way. It can be a belt with work tools or a piece of paracord attached to the rung of a ladder. Due to the smaller size, the sound is quite decent, and low tones are a problem for a small tweeter. The passive speaker cone, which helps the audio a bit, gets muffled at higher volumes, and at higher volumes this really impacts battery life. Using this at lower volumes allows me to approach the advertised battery life. I couldn't report the TWS function as I only have one Hydra Mini. The speaker is lightweight and I can see it floating so I will definitely use it on a kayak without getting in the way of other fishermen.

Pros
  • Portable Audio Video
Cons
  • Legacy model
