I bought the 20D as an upgrade for my Digital Rebel. The costs were definitely worth it. This camera has many, many advantages over the Rebel (as other reviewers will point out), but I thought three of them deserve mention: ISO 1600 and 3200 have very, very low noise levels. This means I can now shoot in low light, which I've never done before. For example, I often photograph crowded streets at night. I used to have to use a flash or my shots would be blurry due to camera shake and people moving. Now (with an f1.8 lens) I can set the camera to ISO 3200 and shutter speed fast enough to get sharp images. In fact, when I use the black and white mode, the image contains almost no noise. Burst recording mode with fast recording. With the "Multi-Shot” function turned on, this camera shoots like a machine gun. It also writes images to the memory card much faster than Rebel has ever done. I took a burst of 25 shots in 5 seconds and they were all still on the card 6 seconds after I stopped shooting. Black and white mode. It's not just a toy feature, if you save as a JPG file (not RAW) the image is actually encoded as a black and white image which means a smaller file size. That means more images per card as well as more images that can be buffered. In fact, I was able to capture 90 frames of black and white (JPG-Large-Tall) images at full speed (5 fps) without stopping (onto a 40x CF card). Like I said, I'm sure there are countless other images out there. amazing features of 20D but wanted you to know my favorites. UPDATE: Over the past few months there have been reports of 20D crashes from time to time. I only had that once. Canon has released a firmware update on its website that fixes this issue (as well as several others). I did the update and haven't had any problems since.
