Review on πŸ“Έ Nikon SB-400 AF Speedlight Flash: Perfect Lighting Solution for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras by Ricardo Ware

Simple but effective flash

I'm an amateur photographer and I wanted to get rid of the pop-up flash on my Nikon D5100. As someone who's nowhere near a pro, I really didn't want to invest a lot of money right away. I don't often shoot portraits or in low light, but I wanted something more powerful than the built-in flash. This flash does exactly what I want, no frills. It simply snaps into the hot shoe mount and blocks the pop-up flash. Management is via the camera interface. The flash itself uses AA batteries, which are said to be included. The only downside to such a simple AA battery flash is the lack of an indicator to warn you when the batteries are low. Put simply, if the batteries die, it just doesn't work. A word of warning would have been nice, but given the low price, I'm not too upset by the lack of this feature. It ignites quickly and gives off a good amount of light. The head is aimed upwards to reflect light and then rotates through several predetermined angles. For a beginner, this is a decent flash from the manufacturer.
