Unlike me, this unit was purchased with no prior customer reviews. I was looking for a powerful (75W+) soldering iron capable of 800-900F to convert the battery for one of my tools. I need something that can get hot enough to solder the battery contacts to new batteries within 1-2 seconds to avoid damage to the battery's internal components, or worse, the battery will explode from boiling over. **Short caution, please do your own research before starting any battery related project. I am by no means advocating soldering the battery pack like I did. There are certain risks that you should be aware of and if you attempt such a project, do your due diligence and do so at your own risk. ** Back to review. The device arrived quickly, all components were well packed. The product seems to be of decent quality considering the affordable price. The plastic doesn't look cheap, the device is solid, the accessories are useful, with one exception - the solder is cheap. I have to say right away that I'm a novice when it comes to soldering. My previous soldering iron was a cheap 30 watt iron from the corner hardware store which I used to repair/upgrade my kids toys and work with basic electronics including an electric guitar. I first read all the instructions and warnings provided in the instruction manual, which was clearly written by a non-native speaker. However, I was able to follow the manual just fine (I've seen a lot worse over the years). Then I connected all the components together and turned on the power. At the moment I can't tell you how well calibrated the instrument is as I don't have access to a professional thermometer, but I can tell you that the instrument read 400°C on its display within 4-5 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected the warm up to take at least a few minutes. Then I increased the temperature to 452C. After two seconds the temperature stabilized and I got to work. I melted the battery components and soldered the first contact in 2-3 seconds. Again, I can't comment on the temperature accuracy, but given the time it took me to do this work, I would have thought the temperature would be in the target 450C range, otherwise I would have thought it would have taken a lot longer. I was done with all four batteries in minutes, filled the tip and turned off the unit. Incidentally, the pliers included in the kit turned out to be very practical - the tips look well made and aligned. When I placed the order I didn't know what to expect at first. Part of me thought I was getting a poor quality product from a cheap Revain supplier, fully expecting that I had a good chance of returning the product to Revain. Luckily this was not the case! I am happy with the purchase and enjoy keeping it in my tool arsenal. Overall I would say this is a great product for those looking for a powerful device on a budget. I would be interested in a professional or experienced enthusiast reviewing this product and providing their critique. Personally, I'm glad I took the risk. I think I paid $30 for my old 30 watt piece of junk at the hardware store. For only $25 I got this powerful device that should be much more accurate and functional. I hope the product will last for many years. I am curious about the customer support aspect and will update my review if/if I ever need to contact the seller/supplier. I should also mention that I was in no way motivated to write this review and I am in no way affiliated with the supplier/manufacturer. I thought this was the first review of this particular product so a disclaimer is needed. Have fun shopping!
