We purchased 5 of these units to reduce wear on the ports on corporate laptops. THREE out of five devices were caught in a broadcast storm that destroyed the entire switch. Luckily, our router was smart enough to isolate this switch from turning off the entire network. It took me and another technician 3 hours to isolate the problem, so 6 man hours were wasted due to inferior products. The failed device's Ethernet activity light was blinking incredibly fast and constantly, even though no laptop was currently connected to it. We unplugged all devices from the docking station except for the ethernet line and power supply, but the device was still bombarding our network with traffic, causing the router to power down the entire switch. Wireshark has shown that the culprit absolutely saturates the network with requests. I don't know what shady things they are doing on our network if they are able to! Disconnecting ethernet ONLY from the device solved the problem in about a minute. To be on the safe side, we repeated this three times. We replaced the dock with another dock that we haven't used yet and everything is back to normal. or so we thought. Two more units failed the next day. We will switch to a well-known brand and not risk this unoriginal schematic!
