Review on Dimmable USB Powered LED Bulb Night Light (7W) - Ideal for Home Reading, Camping, and Emergencies by Michael Kosack

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent but NOT 7W and NOT as bright as advertised.

Like all these lamps, this one is overrated. My review is dedicated to the model with warm white dimming. Current consumption varies from 30mA at full dimming to around 700mA at full brightness. This equates to 3.5 watts, NOT 7 watts. Of course, actual light output will be much lower than advertised. I measured 10 lumens on low and 220 lumens on high, which is to be expected at this level of performance. It's slightly better than some other brands like SunJack and significantly brighter than SunJack. 220 lumens roughly correspond to a 25 W incandescent lamp. The color temperature was measured at 3000K and the color reproduction was quite good. The power indicator has an LED that is always on and draws 4mA all the time, which isn't a big deal. This makes it easy to find the switch in the dark. It's kind of an annoying bright blue, but I've found colored tape helps. The switch is simple - power button and brightness control. You hold the power button for about 5 seconds while it's on, and a timer kicks in, turning the light off after about a minute. The kids will love it - they have time to hide before the monsters come out! The design is completely plastic, and everything is fine. The "radiator" is not real; The cable hole has no socket and may break if moved for a long time. Overall decent light, good for casual camping, emergencies (always take a few if you don't have them) and kids. It would be nice if they really lived up to the declared properties.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
