Get the 100 LED version first. It's very bright, and even with moderate light coming in through the windows, it shows a lot. I have an old cat who can't find her crate these days and we had the smell from two different places. It was really difficult to pinpoint exactly where the urine was on the dark carpet without sticking my nose out an inch from the carpet to find the outline of the marked area, which I really don't want to do. Having this light show me every outline (color code, no less; vomit and urine are different colors) was invaluable. Since I used an enzymatic cleaner to saturate the area, the light also showed me where I had saturated the carpet and what I was missing was incredibly valuable. Yes, this is the "worst" purchase I've ever made just because I now see that I should just tear the house down and start over (just kidding). It will also make a huge profit for the enzymatic cleaning companies as I will be buying a few more gallons but it saved me hours of nose searching today. No, I have no idea how long six AA batteries will last in the 100 lamp version, but in the half hour I spent checking for odors and eliminating them, it worked like a master. The pen gets a little warm, so I know it's using a lot of power, and you can use fresh batteries before going on a long mission. The body has the look of solid aluminum and the end cap that you remove to insert the batteries feels solid, giving me the impression that this is a solid product. I just wanted to write this review as soon as I'm done with the blemish treatment because I was incredibly impressed with how well it works. I had doubts, but today they dispelled them. If you want something to help make sure you're cleaning what needs cleaning, this will help.
