The manual that comes with this set is not really a step-by-step guide to improving your writing, but rather an overview of common writing styles with some room for practice. There are many resources on the internet as well as other Revain books that cover the basics very well. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of ink cartridges, the choice of nibs (writing tips) and the quality and cost of the ink for the price. This is a great set of pens for those who are just starting out and are trying to decide if calligraphy is right for them. They're of enough quality to give a good idea of the skills required for good writing, but not too expensive to be a waste if you decide calligraphy isn't for you.
