Review on πŸŽ’ Discover the Ultimate Women's Daystar 16 Hiking Hydration Pack - 85 oz: A Must-Have for Outdoor Enthusiasts by Ricardo Tlaxcalteca

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This model meets the water, weight (light) and ventilation requirements. Good for hiking in the heat.

My husband and sons have been riding CamelBaks for years and swear by them. I don't ride a bike, but I do enjoy walking 3-6 miles a day or running around the neighborhood. My hydration system consisted of throwing 4 water bottles in a tote bag. Saw the latest CamelBak hiking opportunities and couldn't resist. Needing more water than normal storage (temperatures can get very hot here) and wanting to go light, I ordered CamelBak Women's Daystar 16 Hiking Hydration Pack - Burnt Olive/Silver Pine - 85 oz. (capacity 5 water bottles). First impression - wow. The water weight distribution is one such improvement over my previous system. The weight is higher on my back now, so comfortable and feels a lot lighter. The design of the backpack is narrow, allowing the arms to move freely. It also has a strong mesh back support and not a foldable one so it stays firmly in place and actually provides a little cross ventilation along my back. Straps, compartments and hooks have their purpose. If you are new to CamelBak, I highly recommend watching the demo video to get all the details. In addition to a water storage pocket, this model has two separate zippered pockets on the back. It has enough space to stash a light waterproof jacket, an extra shirt, snacks and essentials. There are also two side pockets for extra bottles. There are side straps for compression - everything is well thought out here too. I had a slight learning curve when transitioning to this system. My "head-tilt" swallowing system is now a "bite-and-suck" method. The water flow is not a big gulp, but certainly a safe and appropriate flow. Now I can look straight ahead, walk with confidence, and drink water (but it took me a whole hike to get the hang of it). I'm glad I ordered the 85 oz, I use the full power. The color of the pack is an attractive olive green. Other models offer front pockets through the vest design, but I agree with this basic streamlined backpacking approach. I'm on board with CamelBak now, thumbs up. Great design, great quality. Good product.
