My son uses them for his stone collection. However, there are problems. The weight of the stones deforms the plastic when holding and opening the lid, but seems normal when placed on a table. The lid appears to offer more protection from twisting, but it's not perfect. All of the short dividers are removable, so if the base warps, the dividers will start to slide out and the smaller bricks will get jumbled. The cell size was well suited to the stones. We also loved seeing the rocks through the transparent walls. But we needed something stronger to support the weight of the stones. By the way, they worked great for sorting baby beads.
