Review on Weco 37783000 Wonder Shell Ornament by Priscilla Tran

Water tests before and after adding anything to our favorite aquarium. We purchased the WECO Miracle Shell Mineral Block to help with the calcium for our Inca golden snail shell. It seemed like a great product and after reading all the reviews I was sure it could help. I broke the shell into 10 pieces. I didn't want to add the whole bowl to our 10 gallon tank without experimenting with just a portion of the product. Before adding the shell, I ran a water test on our tank to make sure the parameters were within the safe range before adding the shell. I used a 5-in-1 aquarium water test strip. Everything in the tank was in a safe, healthy range, so I put 1/10 of the shell in the tank for a dry run. The day after the shell dissolved I decided to test the tank water again before adding more. The nitrite values on the test strips were in the 20s and were dangerous. I couldn't believe it. The day before they were at level 0, today they are in the maximum danger zone. I knew it was because of the shell. I immediately did a 10% water change and will be doing it daily until my tank is back to a safe and healthy condition. This product has not been well tested or researched. If I hadn't checked my aquarium, everyone in it would have died. Especially when I added the whole peel! I'm not entirely sure why it had such rave reviews online. The reviews made me buy it in the first place. But I seriously doubt anyone's tank has stayed sane after using this. We have very soft water and it almost destroyed our aquarium.
