Mine may have been faulty but I've tried every combination of ports and switches but couldn't get the sound produced by the TV (smart tv apps) to come out the port audio output. Seriously, I made a google doc to show all the combinations (just in case the ports/switches were mislabeled) and nothing worked. Unfortunately, I don't have an HDMI analyzer at home, so I have no real way of determining what's coming out of the audio output. If you're wondering why I didn't just plug the ARC connector into the receiver, it was because I needed a device to buffer the signal from the TV to the receiver so it would get out of sync when there was no sound is. EDIT: The seller contacted me immediately to try and resolve the issue. They claim that they have an updated product that can fix the problem but it's not available yet. Instead they gave me my money back. I'm increasing my review score to reflect the level of customer service. although the product didn't work for me.
