Good things first: It works well and is a lot better than spending nearly $100 on an Apple Pencil case. It's unobtrusive and holds the Apple Pencil very firmly, and despite the issues I mention below, it attaches very securely directly to the back of my iPad Pro. The problem is that it damages the pad and causes it to curl up. As a result, one side of the pad will not stick (even with aggressive glue on it) and will continue to rise. The loop of the pen itself seems to put some kind of sticky liquid on my pen. It's kind of sticky or something, but it's quite a bit of it. I'm hoping that by repeatedly inserting the pencil and cleaning its surface, I'll eventually get rid of all that stickiness. Conclusion: It works, but has a few disadvantages. Considering the cost of this item compared to buying a case just to hold a pencil I would suggest going down this route.
