If you're like me, you should at least keep your plate intact so you can use it for your plate when cutting. Unfortunately someone will end up using the latest record for their edit (because it looks new I guess). A plate that has been used with matrices embedded in it will have fine lines cut into the surface. These lines will appear on future cuts and are not pretty. My decision was to buy these gold plates. I tell my friends that they only cut transparent sheets. The jewel goes on top, like a jewel on a postcard. For me this was a great decision. Now I always have new color plates on hand to keep my carvings in their original form.
