I bought a refurbished Garmin GPS navigator for my car and found that it only works when plugged into my car's 'cigarette' socket connected, which was the only power source. cable that came with it. When I later tried to charge it with a standard charger, it turned on but wouldn't charge and displayed a message that I needed an overpriced Garmin power cable to charge. I bought this power cord hoping it would work, but after a few hours I was still getting a low battery message. There is no problem with the cable, but Garmin is a company that is unfriendly to users and forces its users to only buy their products. Update, later I checked my Garmin and it was fully charged! Yes! It may have taken a while because it has never been fully charged before, or it may be finicky. I'm guessing Garmin rather than cable.
