Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product to replace burned out light bulbs. Much brighter, less heat.

I don't often write product reviews but thought this might help some people. I bought these to replace burned out light bulbs in the dashboard of a 2006 Subaru Impreza. I couldn't see my tach and half my speedometer at night. For this type of dashboard, used from 2002 to at least 2007, you will need #74 size bulbs for everything you buy. Installation: I received and installed them yesterday. They fit well and I even replaced some of the bulbs that weren't blown but were "always on" behind the coolant temp and fuel gauges. Installation was easy, they fit snugly into sockets that screw into the circuit board that controls the sensors. Note: The LED lights are polarized so there is only one way to install them. After installation, connect the dashboard cables and turn on the car to make sure it lights up. If not, note the unlit ones, pull them out and change orientation and they should light up. Brightness: very bright. I would say they are easily 2-3 times brighter than standard bulbs. Before I installed the LEDs, I had full brightness at night and it still seemed a bit dim. Now I have a brightness of 3 out of 5 with LEDs and it's still slightly brighter than OEM at full brightness. These also dim well. Note that they are "bright white" in the sense that their color contains an added blue that shows through my green dashboard slightly but not harshly. Cons: The first negative may be model/car specific, but if I set the lowest 2 settings you can visually see the LED's refresh rate. Not a big deal, but it should be noted. At the 3 brightest settings you won't notice it. The second downside is that due to the styling and brightness, you might see a small amount of "washout" behind the odometer and odometer display screens, right where the bulbs are. It's not a deal breaker, but it's because it's brighter and the LED is a flat 'directional' chip compared to the rounded and dimmer OEM bulb. The third downside is that 1 of the LEDs is burned out on arrival. Not a big deal since there were extras, but I made sure it was the LED and not bad contacts or anything. This is the only reason for 4 stars. I would recommend to other same year Subaru owners who need to change their dash light bulbs. The only way to get close to OEM is to find a "natural white" LED, which I couldn't find at the time of my Revain purchase. I would take before and after photos.
