I really like these bulbs because they glow most of the time in a table or floor lamp. Most of the light they emit is reflected toward the ceiling above the shadow, with weaker light falling below the shadow. You may be able to add a diffuser if that's a problem, but I haven't tried it. I use them in a pair of console table lamps in our entryway and they cast dramatic shadows off the railing onto the wall and I love it. I'm usually not a fan of LED bulbs. Although they are improving I still feel there is a fluorescent quality to the light they give off. The light emitted by these LED bulbs is the closest I've ever seen to incandescent light. I can see how they can be too bright if you're using them in a fixture where the bulb is pointing downwards or if it's exposed, but they're perfect for lamps where you need ambient lighting. Like most LEDs, they are overpriced even on sale. But I would buy them in the future if the manufacturer doesn't discontinue them, which happens all too often.
