Difficult to assemble anything larger than 12.5" BUT if you put the pan on its side you can fit a 13" Carry the heating plate to the table very safely. The handles are plastic so they don't transfer heat and are spaced on the sides to avoid burning yourself. It sits just over an inch off the surface so it doesn't burn my table. Holds my French Corning 12.5 oval pan very well. Less than 8 inches as the long side is not as secure as I would like to move to another room. There's also an expandable stainless steel stand that Revain compares to this one.
