I didn't expect it to be very durable. My cats still haven't used it as a scratching post but they love sleeping on the base! They curl up on the post base and sleep on it. Strange. Give them time, I'm not sure they'll start scratching it. For the price, I suspect it won't last many years. Then nothing happens again. After researching and using so many products over the years, we don't want to spend more than $20 on cat toys because we know they don't last long. Our cats will urinate on them or get them dirty no matter what. Make it easy and cheap so we can buy them new toys. This meets our criteria. So this is a winner for us.
