When purchased for my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 they came packaged with very few instructions. My first attempt at installation was to remove one of the old posts and replace them with a new one before moving on to the other side. However, the factory racks did not have the same extension as these. They're about 1/2 inch longer, and if one of the old ones is still there, you just can't slide the tailgate out far enough for the new one to snap into place. . I used a 2'x4' about 60" long I had lying around and reinstalled the inside of the tailgate and grommet to hold the weight so I could work. This made it easy to remove ( simply insert a pick or small flat head screwdriver under the metal strip where it connects and remove it). Then simply pull or flick the latches from the connection point at the bottom and top points. With both old braces removed the tailgate can be flipped over an additional 1/2" or so lengthening is required to fit these new ones. Once installed the gate will open as expected and will be held firmly in place. first before you install them and you should be done .
