They are only slightly smaller than the last "Banker's Box" I bought. I don't notice the loss of usable space, but I use boxes like this for everything! They are well made, easy to assemble and can handle quite a large load without losing their shape. As for the mention of no tape, I thought all of these boxes were made that way. I've been using it for 20 years and haven't noticed any changes in the design yet. In fact, this is a cardboard box with a separate lid and holes at the ends for handles. A lid is attached to them, when you take it out of the box, remove it first, then fold the box. My only mistake was that I first folded the lid inside out and the tucked ends didn't fold in the right place. When I folded it back with the lettering on the outside, it fit. A few tips for those new to using them for long-term storage: If yours is damp, buy a packet of those little organza bags sold at wedding favor craft stores and fill them with borax. Tie it up and toss one in each box to reduce the chance of mold or mildew. A handful of bay leaves will protect against most insects, and a little mint will help repel mice. When I know I won't have to reach into the box for a while, I glue the lids on to make it sturdier. Run the tape along the lid and fold the ends over the handles and up to easily secure. If you want them to be as dust proof as possible, simply cover the holes with a piece of tape when you get to the storage area and no longer need to use the handles. I'm in a dusty desert and was amazed at how well they keep dirt out even after years of sitting.
