When I was trying to learn bookbinding I was looking for a simple alternative to glass to dry bookcloth and adhesive paper and they work very well. The film is strong, smooth as glass, and sufficiently non-stick to allow fabric to dry with minimal warping. Glass performs better, but the trade-off between weight, storage, and price makes Mylar a winner. If I moisten the fabric on one sheet and glue the backing fabric to the other, laying the two sheets edge to edge, I can tip the glued paper onto the fabric and fold them slightly. Almost does not wrinkle, almost does not tear the paste-fragile fabric. Then mylar separates perfectly from the paste.
