The screen printed image blocks the ceramic pores so is totally non absorbent, this is an inaccurate product description and I can only imagine the positive reviews were either written by people who are actually theirs Coasters not used or people who have been sent an improved version of the product. You can see the print splatters on the sides of each individual coaster and by the way it's the same picture/pattern on each one which seems EXTRA cheap. The water simply sits on the surface, so any concave-bottomed mug uses the surface water as a seal to trap air and secure the coaster to your mug when you pick it up. I ordered two different sets of coasters and while the other set I had is also clearly printed, they are actually porous and absorbent and won't stick to the bottom of your cold drink. Please take this review seriously, I bought them about a week ago and gave them a solid try. I'm going to return them because the only thing they're good at is moving water about 1/4 inch over what you want to keep dry. Chances are, you're still getting water on anything you're trying to protect because it just accumulates. the surface of these coasters and will slide off when you pick something up.
