They don't stay on the pens - children pick up their pens and start writing and the pens just slide off. Pencils have been made narrower for the last I don't know how many years (probably to save money on resources without increasing the price of pencils too much). My own kids had these pens when they were younger (the youngest is 16 now) and they worked great so I wanted them for my remedial class. The hole diameter in these pins should be smaller to accommodate narrower pins. The pencils in my class are Ticonderogas and they are all different colors. When the pen slides down, kids don't really learn how to hold a pen better or properly. Instead, they try their best to hold onto the pen while figuring out how to write. It's not going well.
