Age. The perfect combination of cushioning, the tread stays wet. Wide toe box for medium distance running. Perfectly guides water in muddy water and perfectly protects toes on rocks. I've had several pairs. I use the more powerful Alta for ultra stuff, but this particular model does it all in a variety of shorter-range conditions. And given the low drop, I also use it in interval/tabata/db workouts. With this very specific model I run where the waves at the beach stretch to some hard sand and occasionally waves seep through the shoe. Skip the alligators.
