Will crumple and crease

I was glad to receive this but it had a strange smell when I opened it because it was compressed in the packaging so I have it on gentle cycle and low heat to dry washed and when I put it on the bed I immediately noticed a clumping. I've tried solving and smoothing some of the squares but to no avail. Really disappointed. It's very soft and I like the way it looks, but it doesn't catch the eye as some areas stick together.
