These are amazingly useful as an intercom. I wasn't sure how much I would want an "intercom" when skiing/skiing out west. Looking back, I should have realized how valuable they are when you're out on the road with a group. For example, if someone wants to walk through the trees or run parallel, you can easily keep in touch. "Beware of this stone" is a valid warning. We ski with young children and used to have to stop at every intersection to make sure they didn't get lost or go the wrong way, but now we can just walk. It's much easier to "adjust" - for example, if there's a long line for the chairlift, we might spontaneously decide to go somewhere else. Claimed range is around 700m. I reckon we get at least a hundred with moderate tree impact, a few hundred in heavy snowfall and maybe 500m on a clear sunny day. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it is a lot. In comparison, you won't be able to shout that far in these conditions, you won't be able to see that far to give hand signals on a foggy/snowy day, and even on a clear day someone at 500m will see very, very small (ex : You can see someone waving their hands, but you can't see how many fingers they're holding) We looked at outdoor headphones but preferred the SENA phone-less intercom system. And while many people complain about SENA's customer service (because their products tend to be expensive, people expect more), it certainly seems like a massive improvement over cheap Chinese knockoffs. And when you look at other SENA products and prices, it's surprisingly good value. We would like to get two more sets but they are sold out. This tells me that others find this to be a very useful and practical solution.
