Something of a PC upgrade

First impressions: This should be an upgrade on a pair of Plantronics Gamecom 377's that I've been using for years. The sound was passed through the chip Realtek Supreme FX S1220A. Plantronics was an excellent headset and the only downside was the volume control squeaking. Headset, which is crucial. They are lighter and have less clamping force, but stay in place very well. Plenty of room in the ear cushion and no discomfort when wearing glasses. 5 stars in this area. With regard to the sound characteristics, the sound card was tested in all three amplification modes. Powerful worked well for most listening sessions, but was extremely required to get the maximum dynamic range out of this set. The sound is full, but the bass is less than Plantronics. The low registers are audible, but not as strong. So if that's your taste, you might not be happy with this price point. The dynamic is very good. Stereo separation and clarity are superior to Plantronics. The picks on the guitar strings and sticks touch the cymbal, and even the amp's gain feedback is crisp and clear. The vocals are clear and each artist has different tonal qualities with no distortion or muddy qualities covering things up. The dual purpose of listening to music or video conferencing should be fun for them. Gaming performance in modern games shouldn't be a problem as higher cadences are where strong lower frequencies are missing. The built-in mic is great, but if you think about picking up the mic, it can become an issue outside of games. The performance of the microphone is good. The Plantronics kit has a great microphone (one of their historical strengths). I'm more inclined towards baritone singing and no one could tell the difference between the mics so you won't hear the tinny sound or the sound of a minor child screaming. The open design makes it easy to hear the world around you. So if you have kids or loved ones who tend to talk to you when you're using the headset, or sneak up on you and startle you, you'll appreciate it and you clearly can't hear it in the muffled kind of way. Conversations with the supplied headset are easy to implement. First impressions are that this is some sort of upgrade with better ergonomics, better stereo sound/image separation, but less dynamics and frequency response. However, Plantronics is only $50.
