Review on O'Neill Basic Skins UPF 50+ Long Sleeve Sun Shirt for Men by O'Neill Wetsuits by Eddie Fowler

Excellent sun protection and bathing comfort. LS shirt

This is my second O'Neill rashguard/swim shirt and it is of the highest quality (a short sleeve and now this LS). Customer reviews of suitability and effectiveness vary widely, so here's my experience. I usually wear large or sometimes XL depending on the brand/cut. SIZE/FIT: The Carhart Large cotton t-shirt fits me loosely, while the Riggs Large t-shirt is snug but still fits. I bought this O'Neill rashguard shirt in a size 2XL hoping it would fit a little looser and it does. For me, the O'Neill size Large would have been tight and form-fitting, not exactly compressive. The XL is better for a comfortable fit for swimming etc. But I like the looser fit of the 2XL as a beach shirt which is also great for everyday swimming. So I think you'll probably want to buy a size up from your usual t-shirt size for the same type of fit. Shop your normal size for an almost compressive fit. And buy two sizes up for a looser fit. PERFORMANCE: I wore this O'Neill shirt for a three hour swim in the pool in the summer midday sun (95 degrees Fahrenheit) with no burns and almost no extra tan. I have light skin with freckles, so I'm sensitive to sunburn. I put a lot of SPF 50 sunscreen on my face and it got very tanned, almost red, but not quite. BUT under the O'Neill shirt I was fully protected, much better than SPF 50 sunscreen. Our grandkids wear O'Neill rashguard shirts at sea and play all day without tanning their shoulders or back. They're also great for swimming or walking the beach when the temperatures drop and the wind picks up, offering a little more warmth than just bare skin. QUALITY: They served our grandchildren for a long time. Because they stretch so much, they wore the same ones for three years and continued to grow, both in chlorine pools and in the salty ocean waters. The seams are sewn well and do not interfere, even if not quite evenly. It's a very tight weave and I've never seen them snag or tear on the beach or in the pool. Has a smooth texture. I'm sure every brand has a small margin of error, but all six we bought were top-notch in materials and construction.
