No installation required with Windows XP; reads CompactFlash and SmartMedia, the two formats I have, with no hiccups. But note: - There are only two slots (or drives) for all six formats. One slot is for IBM Microdrive and CompactFlash, the other for four different formats: Smartmedia, Memory Stick, Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard. For example, you cannot copy data from MicroDrive to CompactFlash or data from SmartMedia to Memory Stick. So, this must be taken into account when you want to copy data from one format to another. Some other brands offer up to four slots for more versatility. The fragile stand is a joke. I wonder why they bother turning it on.
