I have decided to upgrade a 'temporary' shelf I installed over 5 years ago. After reading the negative reviews I was a bit afraid to order. I ordered a box of 4 foot shelves (2 x 48" x 24") to be placed over my workbench. I figured if it's not what I was looking for in terms of quality and ease of installation I might return it. As I moved the box from the porch to the garage on the other side of the house, I realized it was a heavy piece. The packaging is stable and well thought out. Since I already knew where the studs were, I didn't use a template or layer. For the previous shelves I used a nail finder, tape measure and a 2 foot level. Previous shelving was made of L-brackets and plywood, and due to the size of the braces, the shelves were only 16 inches deep. The new shelving gives me 50% more storage space and I feel like it adds value to the home. I used the brackets as a template to determine where to drill the holes. Instead of using a box or open-end wrench, I used a ratchet, a short extension, and a 1/2" socket. Much faster. I was so pleased with the first two shelves that I ordered three more boxes and two 12- Foot built-ins installed shelves on one side of the garage. which I installed yesterday. I only had two problems. First, out of 16 shelves, one has a slightly (I mean slightly) bent 'wire'. I could probably bend it back, but since it doesn't affect the functionality of the shelf, I left it alone. If you don't know it's there, you won't notice. Of the 48 screws, three were too big for a 1/2". -head and required a 13mm head Didn't have one but had a 13mm box end wrench which worked great.. the brackets are square so that wasn't a problem. One or two could have been removed but again it didn't affect the functionality and looks affects crafts, you shouldn't have any trouble installing it. I'm 69 years old and did it all in just a few hours. Ordered two more boxes today to replace the shelves on the other side of the garage. I can only recommend this article.
