We love this toy - it is well thought out and has been interesting and fun for our 3 year old for over two years. We take it out every once in a while and she still enjoys playing with it for a long time. She got it for her first birthday and we just bought it as a present for our nephew's first birthday. When she was a year old, she loved pushing balls through the holes with her hands and watching them fly out and roll across the wooden floor. For a long time she liked to play without the little hammer that goes with it, but now she loves to play with the hammer. I think the repetitive, rhythmic process of hammering and the disappearance and appearance of balls appeals to a wide age group, and the use of a hammer helps develop motor skills in young children. If your child tends to throw, be careful because wooden balls are hard and quite heavy. We had a bunch of kids who found out how fun it was to take them down the stairs - hooray!
