Review on AKG Black N60 Noise Canceling Headphones by Michael Gilmartin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

love the headphones. with one BIG caveat

The sound is excellent in the AKG N60 headphones. The noise canceling function does not affect the sound quality. They are particularly effective at suppressing low-frequency noise, such as on an airplane. In the office, they effectively dampen ventilation and air conditioning noise, fans and other noise. Remember these are WIRED headphones only - this model does not have Bluetooth. I specifically needed non-RF headphones for work. The line is made of high quality nylon, without a hook. Very smooth, thin and light. AKG is known for high-quality audio products (especially studio microphones). They lag a little behind in one important design aspect. The N60 would have easily gotten a 5-star rating if it wasn't for the horrible, horrible, ridiculous (should I continue?) charging system: 1. It uses an 18-inch USB-A cable with a 4-pin round Mini plug for charging. Need a replacement cable? Are you looking for a longer charging cable? nope They don't even sell a short charging cable anymore. So if you need a replacement, make your own or try eBay.2. The charging port is also an audio input, so you can't charge and listen at the same time. The batteries are non-removable, so you can't buy a spare set and charge outdoors.3. One end of the cable is a USB-A male with no shroud (pins are exposed). It can be reinstated and is free. Because the cord is so short, it can easily be pinched or pulled and loosened enough to interrupt charging. In my experience, I check the charge indicator when I first plug it in, but I don't notice when I push it out when it's charging on my desk.4. Why not use a USB-A to Micro-USB adapter for charging only, separate from the standard mini-jack for audio. Audio jack on one ear and charging jack on the other, maybe? 5. Provide cables of reasonable length. The audio cable is a standard 3-foot length and can be easily extended (mini-jack extensions are common), while the charging cable is 18 inches long. When charging from a regular outlet, the headphones must be placed on the floor. I still use them almost every day. They were reasonably priced and sounded great, so I'll take their features into account when I get to work.

Pros
  • Everything is great!
Cons
  • There are nuances
