Our son is 7 years old, he is of average height but only weighs 41 pounds and has a very thin waist. Most size 5 or larger shorts fall off it. Sometimes we can pull the drawstring shorts tight enough, but then they don't stretch enough for him to take them off and put them back on when he needs to go to the bathroom, and the leg fabric is very baggy. ! Hallelujah! I chose these because some reviews mentioned that they fit a small waist and they were right!
