The new MacBook Pro only comes with four new USB 3.1 Type-C ports, none of which support external hard drives or DVD Drives are works. This was the cheapest hub I could find and it works great. So far I haven't had any problems with it since I bought it in December. I currently only use three of the four ports with two external hard drives and a DVD drive, which I also bought. I am able to charge through this additional port, although it says it is not. I don't know why but I've only tried twice. It has a 12" cable. I can't measure the transfer speed, but I haven't noticed any slowdown when transferring files or playing movies from my hard drives.
