Great little camera

I've been looking for a compact non-DSLR camera for about a year. I've been waiting for the ELPH350 but the lag was constant and the only difference between the 340 and 350 was 4 megapixels and $60. I have read that the human eye can no longer make any further distinctions from 12 megapixels, but at some point the pixels become so small that the eye can no longer see them either. I decided to buy the 340 and accessory kit for $22. It's a great little camera that's a lot better than my phone's camera for many situations. The instruction manual is quite simple, as is the operation. It comes with an 800mA battery and charger, so you can take around 200 shots without a flash. I would definitely recommend buying extra batteries in the 900-1000mA range, especially if you're doing any type of recording. I plan to make a short entry, but don't expect more than 10 minutes on a standard battery, maybe less if you scale a lot. 12x is more than enough and the image stabilization works great. There's a small internal microphone on the bottom that doesn't pick up wind and ambient noise. It recorded my audio at normal volume with no distortion. I couldn't fault the placement of some buttons and parts of the case that are a little flimsy, particularly the battery door. The Wi-Fi transfer worked smoothly, but I still had a USB port for transferring photos and charging the battery. All in all, for a camera that can afford to lose a camera that complements your phone's shots, I don't think the 340 could offer better value for money.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Useless features
